Hello All and welcome to a brand new year of rallying!!!
By now hopefully you’ve had chance to read through the rally calendar for this year and you’ll agree there are some exciting rallies ahead for you, I would like to thank all the Marshall’s for their efforts and hopefully I can bring you more entertainment to what looks likely to be a fun packed schedule already!!
My name is Gary Horner and I’m your sports officer for this year, I would first like to give a special mention to Rob Wall for his donation towards sports equipment, we have already spent part of this money on two netball posts which are proving very popular already, the remaining money has already been earmarked for other much needed equipment as we maintain our quest for sporting dominance this year!! thank you Rob for this much welcome donation!
For those new to rallying or unsure what the sports side is all about, every year there are two rallies which I’ll explain below where we compete as a sports team against all other centres, this can get quite competitive but always remains fun based but also highly entertaining, spectators are always welcome but beware as you suddenly find yourself singing a team chant trying to out-sing the opposition!!
National Rally
28th – 31st May
This is the main rally where all centres throughout the UK get together, if you’ve never been to a National Rally then you really are missing out, even if you not sports minded there is an amazing program for just about all tastes, and for those sporty types let me try to explain.
All centres come together and compete in the following sports categories, Football, Netball, Volleyball, Tug of War, Petanque (boules) and Running Races with trophies for the winners and runners up all, you could describe it as the Olympic Games!! (there’s even an opening and closing ceremony) there is no better feeling than walking onto the field of play in your team uniform ready to take on the opposition while being cheered on by the crowd!!
No matter how old or how young you are there is something for everyone!
**very important, in your rally book you will find signing on forms, for the national all competitors must be signed on, which is done on the Friday, if you are interested please hand these slips in ASAP please as I don’t want anyone to have to miss out!**
Intercentres
18th – 19th June
This is like the National Rally only on a smaller basis, with Lincolnshire competing against Derbyshire, Northants and Ruts, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire in what you could describe as the Commonwealth Games of the Caravan Club!
Oakhill Youth Rally
14th – 16th May
I’m already hearing about the exciting events that Gary Wilson and the youth team have in store for you, also we are using some of this time to get some much needed practise and team bonding for the all important National and Intercentre Rallies, if you are unsure about competing in the above come along to this and have a taster of the games that we play, you’ll soon get into the swing of things and you’ll thoroughly enjoy it.
Sports Practise
As well as the above I’m hoping to get the sports equipment to most of the rallies that I attend, I’ll keep you updated through the forum on the rallies where we will be doing sports practise, they often end up (especially the adults) very competitive and extremely amusing, so please feel free to join in, the more the merrier!!
Your County Needs You!!
You’ve probably already read one of my fliers but just in case you haven’t! without competitors we don’t have a team, so please get involved where you can, all levels of ability are welcome we just want to have some fun!! And most important, I’m looking for volunteers to help run/manage some of theses teams, during the intercentres and National rallies there will be more than 10 teams from Lincolnshire competing on the day plus the different running races, something I can’t handle on my own, so please if you feel you can help out, give me a ring on the number below, I would like to thank Mark Chesman who has offered to run the 12-15years football team and also S J who has offered to help out where she can on the Netball side, plus helping me learn some of the rules, so thanks to both of you, your help is greatly appreciated..
Yours in Sport
